Disadvantages Of A Living Will

While there aren’t many disadvantages to having a living will, there are a few. Learn all about them here.

There are also a few disadvantages of a living will that you should be aware of before you write one. Below is a list of some disadvantages to a living will:

• You can’t change your mind—yes, you can change your mind and change your living will, but you can’t change your mind once the actions dictated in the living will have been followed. If you chose to be kept on life support, you may regret that decision once it takes place, and if you chose not to, you will never know what might have happened with a different decision.

• It is a very difficult decision—while you are saving your family from having to make the decision, you will have to be the one to consider all the options and try to decide what is best without knowing what may cause the living will to have to be used. This can be hard for some people and can be a big disadvantage in creating a living will.

• There still may be arguments—if your loved ones don’t happen to agree with your decision, you may create arguments and hard feelings when you tell them your decision. You may even have a relative that refuses to abide by your wishes. This can’t happen, however, but it can make the relationship tense and it can be a disadvantage of a living will.

There aren’t many disadvantages of a living will, but you should be aware of the few that there are before making the decision to create one.
