Advantages To A Living Will

There are many advantages to having a living will. Learn about these advantages here.

There a many advantages to having a living will that you should be aware of. Below is a list of the advantages to a living will that you can achieve by writing one:

• You know what will happen—if you have decided that you do not want to be resuscitated, or that you do not want to be kept alive by life support machines, then you should write a living will. Once you have done this, there is no possibility that you will wake up one day unable to breathe on your own and stuck in a hospital bed for the rest of your life. The peace of mind in knowing what will happen in those situations is an excellent advantage to a living will.

• Prevents arguments—if you have no directions for when you are in a situation where you may need life support, many arguments can ensue among family members. Some may want to keep you on life support while others may not think they should. While your next of kin will ultimately be the one to make that decision, many people may be angry at that person for whatever decision they made. The advantage of a living will is that all types of arguments like this are completely prevented—they have no say.

• Prevents your children or spouse from having to decide—many people have a hard time thinking openly when it comes to the keeping their loved one alive or not. If you have specific requests, and you spell these out in your living will, your children and spouse will never be put through that kind of strain and difficulty. This is one of the best advantages to having a living will.

As you can see, there are many advantages to a living will. Don’t hesitate to feel the security of these advantages by making a living will immediately.
