Disadvantages Of Estate Planning Software

Just as there are advantages to using estate planning software, there are many disadvantages. Learn what these are here.

There are many disadvantages of estate planning software that you should be aware of before you spend your time and money on one. There are always contingencies, caveats, and concerns in people’s lives. Since this is the case, not every estate plan is the same. And, an estate planning program cannot understand these differences the way that a human can. This means that one of the greatest disadvantages to using estate planning software is that these concerns may not be addressed properly, or even brought up.

Another disadvantage is that a software program is not near as experienced as an attorney is. When you need anything done, you would likely prefer to have a professional that has been doing that same thing for a long time and has seen nearly every problem possible in the past and already knows how to solve it. An estate planning computer program cannot do this. So what happens if everything seems to be planned perfectly, and then something goes wrong? Your estate planning software isn’t going to know what to do about it.

Another disadvantage of estate planning software is that it can’t assist you with making changes in the document later (such as if any major laws have changed, etc.). There are many steps that need to be taken to do this, especially in large estates, and you may still end up needing an attorney anyway.

Other disadvantages of estate planning software are that you will not know if something is incorrect until too late and there is no one to assist you in the decision-making process. This basically means you are not given any counsel with estate planning software the way you would be with an attorney, and this is a big disadvantage.
